Focus Values: More than Simple Concepts

July 5, 2023 By Dale Reesor

Living our focus values

Living our values is not just a philosophical concept, but a practical approach that can significantly impact our daily lives. While vision values provide long-term direction and purpose for life, and foundation values provide the stability in life during difficult times, it is focus values that consume our energy and motivate us every day. Identifying and living our values is essential to greater satisfaction in what we are doing everyday.

Living in our Focus

Living by our focus values, supports prioritizing tasks and making decisions that are in line with what truly matters. This allows us to direct our efforts towards activities that bring us joy and fulfillment. As a result, we experience a sense of purpose in our lives as we actively pursue what is meaningful to us.

Furthermore, living by our focus values helps us maintain high levels of motivation and enthusiasm. When we engage in activities that resonate with who we are at the core, it becomes easier to stay committed and dedicated even during challenging times. This unwavering commitment not only propels us forward but also inspires others around us.

Reflect on a time when you felt powerful and alive. What were you doing at the time? At the time of writing this post I am sitting on the patio of a little coffee shop drinking an espresso and tonic water. (Yes espresso and tonic water). I am doing a few things that I love doing right now. Sitting in the sun, drinking a beverage, listening to music on my headphones, and writing about values. So many of the things I enjoy. As I write this post, I am confident that as I invest time in these activities, I am being pulled towards my preferred future.

Benefits of Living our Values

In addition to maximizing energy and providing satisfaction in life, living in our focus values reduces stress. Aligning with focus values, and how we invest daily energy produces life and fulfillment. This harmony creates a sense of ease and tranquility as we navigate through our day. When we are doing what we value most each day, an increase sense of vocation and calling emerges.

Ultimately, investing in our focus values provides a road map for leading an authentic life everyday. Focus values guide us in making choices that reflect who we truly are. By consciously living according to these guiding principles, we cultivate a strong sense of self-awareness and integrity.

Is sitting on a sunny patio this afternoon, drinking fizzy-espresso and writing a blog post the meaning of life?

Likely not.

The focus values of self-worth, creativity, and insight are several of the focus values that give me direction everyday. In that, it is the meaning of life – living by focus values. Aligning with focus values, we maximize energy levels, enhance focus, reduce stress, and find greater satisfaction and purpose.

It’s liberating to discover one’s focus values, then intentionally apply effort to working with them on a daily basis. Embracing our focus values allows us to live authentically, making choices that align with who we truly are.

About Dale Reesor

For many years, the study of values and the structured approach presented in the methodology we use at the Values Hub was unknown. At least unknown to me. The notion of values - both personally and in the workplace was certainly familiar, and it motivated much of my work in the not-for-profit sector.

Whether teaching in a private college, developing web-based adult learning, or implementing humanitarian projects overseas, looking back, all the values I have come to know and love were right there. I can see over the course of my life and career, a passion for the values of collaboration, pioneerism, innovation, and creating something new.
