THE VALUES MAP
A Values Blueprint
Everything in our world of values starts with The Values Map.
It’s a table including all the elements of finding the way forward in discovering values, gaining insight into one’s values and preparing for a life time of application. It may look complex, but do you remember the first time playing a musical instrument, operating a piece of machinery, or turning on a new smart phone? It may take time, but we are convinced there is no more robust and complete approach to values available.
How do I jump in and make sense?
- Download or view the values map above. If you can print it in full colour that is even better.
- Start from the top left, and review the four worldviews and the four headers – surviving, belonging, self-initiating, and interdependent.
- Review the “stages” – these moments in life that describe the values that are prominent at that moment. They are like buckets in which the values sit.
- Values change as we change, and as our values change we transform.
- Review down a few the columns and highlight or circle the ones that are important right now. (Self-Worth, Art/Beauty, Safety/Survival, Health/Healing).
- Goals values are what we want to achieve, and means values describe the kinds of skills we need to achieve the goals in life.
Sounds interesting? Confusing? Too much?
