Values Integrated Leadership for Complex Times
We often hear the phrase “we live in unprecedented times” and it isn’t difficult to understand why this phrase is used by individuals and leaders in the public arena. Given the challenges associated with responding to a global pandemic, political unrest, and personal and financial loss experienced by both individuals and businesses, attempting to make meaning is essential. So many of the issues we currently face can serve to be divisive, dividing family members, friends, co-workers, and large swaths of our society in general.
At the Values Hub, we believe that these are all indicators of values in conflict. What are the pressures that emerge at our very foundations when health, finances, and relationships are shaken? How will one respond if it feels like everyday is spent just trying to survive, and there seems to be no hope for a better tomorrow?
Yet in the midst of this, leaders are still called to lead. There is no exception to that important call for leaders to provide quality leadership; supporting colleagues as the workplace attempts to deliver on the goods or services offered to their clients/customers.
Workshop Description and Overview
While this workshop is similar to our workshop, Leading Values Insight the focus in this workshop is on identifying and integrating values in the workplace. Using an online values identification questionnaire, we start by providing opportunity for participants to identify their own values, then engage with participants in meaning-making from the results. At the mid-point of the workshop, the conversation turns from one’s own values (self), to the values shared by the workplace (team), with the final focus of the workshop on how shared values influence how the team serves the client (system).
Individuals are accountable to the organizations of which they are a part. It is also true that systems are accountable to their members. Leaders create environments that are generative, people oriented, engaged, and mutually accountable.
Leaders in business, not-for-profit, churches, and volunteer organizations will benefit from this workshop as they explore individual and shared values.
Participants will explore the robust and comprehensive framework of the methodology we use, which includes:
- Four phases of values development experienced by both individuals and groups
- Eight stages of values that are experienced internally and externally by individuals
- The influence that one’s worldview has on self-worth, relationships, and beliefs
- The ways in which values provide stability, daily focus, and a pull towards the future
The workshop is designed to stretch participants to see how their part relates to the whole, and to ask how they and their team are related to the outcomes of the organization’s mission. The workshop will seek to understand how the team relates to the mission of the workplace, the outcomes of programs, and the directions of their efforts.
This workshop is built upon an David Kolb’s learning model called experiential learning which strives to put learners in real-world situations where immediate application of the learning can occur. (YouTube Video – for more information).
